Within the last 24 hours, there seems to be a positive turn in all things gay. Not only did we receive news over the weekend that DADT is officially kaput and Phoenix Suns president and CEO Rick Welts came out as gay, it was announced late last week that there would be a television personality coming out of the closet with the help of celebrity publicist Howard Bragman. While many speculated that it would be Anderson Cooper, Ryan Seacrest or Wentworth Miller taking the plunge, CNN's very sexy anchor Don Lemon, who has a new autobiography coming out called Transparent announced at the age of 45 that he is in fact a gay man.

"I am so proud of Don Lemon for being honest, proud and coming out," filmmaker Maurice Jamal told R20. "Don has been honest about his sexuality with management and co-workers, which is admirable in this industry. And now his revealing his true self to the masses marks an important step. I hope that others follow his footsteps."


Noah's Arc writer/director Patrik-Ian Polk agreed. "When a high profile person like Don Lemon—who many let into their homes daily via their TV's—comes out, it makes a difference. The more of us who come out, the more they'll see—we're here 2 stay and we ain't going away."

While I know there will be some out there who will bitch because Don mentioned publicly around the time of the Bishop Eddie Long same sex scandal that he was molested as a child, whatI am happy about is that we have a black man who has come out as gay. We people of color always go through this thing where we try to act like being gay is a white man's disease and that homosexuality does not exist in the black and latino communities. I hope that Don's courage will inspire many other personalities and actors of color to be their true authentic selves and give a positive face to the urban LGBT community. Now can someone find out if Don is single?
