Cannes Casting Call: Firth and Blunt to Star in Dark Comedy; Holmes to Star in RESPONSIBLE ADULTS; Quaid Joins THE WORDS; 4 Board IDEA IN AMERICA

As the Cannes Film Festival heats up, plenty of casting deals are getting done.  We’ve combined some of the latest casting stories into one handy article for your viewing pleasure.  First up, Colin Firth and Emily Blunt have signed on to star in a dark comedy from director Dante Ariola and written by Becky Johnston.  According to Deadline, “Firth plays a man who hates his job and is hated by his ex-wife and son. Feeling he missed his one shot at living the dream, he fakes his death and buys a new identity. Along the way he meets a woman (Blunt) who is also trying to leave her past behind. The pair break into empty homes and pose as the absent owners. The two find a kindship despite all the lying.”  I’m a little giddy at the thought of Firth and Blunt playing off each other so hopefully we’ll see this project sooner rather than later.
Hit the jump for more casting news regarding Katie Holmes, Chase Crawford, Dennis Quaid, Orlando Bloom, Nick Nolte, Stanley Tucci, and Cristiana Capotondi.
THR reports that Katie Holmes and Chase Crawford will star in the romantic comedy Responsible Adults.  Holmes will play a 30-year-old med student who falls for a younger man (Crawford) only to realize that she was once his babysitter.  I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this plot on a sitcom before.  Jon Poll (Charlie Bartlett) will direct from a script by Alex Schemmer.  Principal photography is set to begin this fall in Los Angeles.
Moving on, Dennis Quaid has joined Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Irons in the dramatic thriller The Words.  The movie is about a celebrated writer (Cooper) who must pay the price for stealing the work of another man (Irons).  THR reports that Quaid will play “Clay Hammond”, but doesn’t say how Clay relates to Cooper or Irons’ characters.  TRON: Legacy co-writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal wrote the script and will make their directing debut on the picture.
Finally, Orlando Bloom, Nick Nolte, Stanley Tucci, and Christiana Capotondi have boarded the coming-of-age road-trip comedy Idea in America.  According to THR, the film “follows a young Italian ornithologist who travels from California to Georgia in the pursuit of the American bald eagle, a dream job and her independence.  Cecilia Miniucchi (Expired) will write and direct the film, which is scheduled to shoot this fall.
